Thanks to hard-working volunteers, the Salaca has been cleaned up

On 10 May, a clean-up of the banks of the Salaca River took place, organised by the Fishing Club “Salackrasti” in cooperation with the Svētupe Protection Society. The clean-up covered a wide area – from the “Atpūtas” recreation site in the Ainaži rural area all the way to the port area in Salacgrīva.

On the day of the clean-up, at ten in the morning, hard-working volunteers gathered at Lašlejas. After the morning briefing and receiving work gloves and rubbish bags, they set off – some walked along the banks of the Salaca on their own, others were taken to specific clean-up sites.

The river was divided into eight sections along both banks. Small groups of volunteers went to each section so that the work progressed evenly along the whole river. The weather on Saturday was great, and the volunteers could leave the bags of collected litter on the riverbank and carry on working. We will know the results of the clean-up – how many bags were collected that day – once the men from the fishing club have gathered them all by boat, but the forty-three volunteers did a great job.

After a job well done, the volunteers were met with warm care and hospitality – a delicious soup on the bank of the Salaca and a chance to take part in a prize draw for gift cards from the shop Eholotes.lv.
