On 17 May, the 8th Herring Eaters’ Festival “Sābri un nāburgi” (Neighbours and friends) took place in Salacgrīva. Visitors could not only get a free bucket of herring from Krūmiņ Jānis, enjoy the festival’s rich cultural programme and shop at the large craft market, but also learn more about the Life is Salaca project “Adaptation of Water Framework Directive and Habitats Directive harmonization and integrated actions for freshwater quality improvement in Salaca river sub catchment”, or, in short, “Harmonising the habitat and water management directives and implementing measures to improve water quality in the Salaca sub-basin”.

Project manager Edijs Leoke and lead riparian forest expert Mārcis Saklaurs talked about what the project has done so far and about the activities in 2025 and how they are progressing.
