Meeting with EUROFORESTER master’s students
26.03.26
On 18 March, Mārcis Saklaurs, lead riparian forest researcher of the LIFE IS SALACA project, and Ģirts Baranovskis, head of the compensation unit of the LIFE-IP LatViaNature project, met twenty-four EUROFORESTER master’s students from Sweden, Poland, Austria, the USA, Latvia and other countries.
During the meeting, the students learned about forest management in specially protected nature areas, cooperation with forest owners and the work of the Nature Conservation Agency.
In the discussions, we talked about the challenges of preserving forest biodiversity in Latvia, the importance of specially protected nature areas and various incentive mechanisms that encourage biodiversity conservation on private land.
As Euroforester is a master’s programme at the Alnarp campus of the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences focusing on forestry in Northern and Central Europe, we are pleased with this now traditional meeting and the conversations and discussions with young professionals in the field.
After the discussions, together with nature guide Rolands Auziņš, we walked the nature trails of Gauja National Park.
