The LIFE IS SALACA project visits schools in Latgale and Vidzeme

The LIFE IS SALACA and LIFE IP LatViaNature projects implemented by the Nature Conservation Agency took part in the “Environment Days in Latgale 2026” organised by Europe Direct, visiting two schools – Jaunsilava Primary School and Līvāni Secondary School No. 1 – on 26 March with the lesson “Is Latvia a freshwater superpower?”.
The aim of the Environment Days is to raise public awareness of environmental issues and to inform about global environmental problems and possible solutions. This year’s events placed a special emphasis on the importance of water resources and their sustainable use and management.
On 27 March, the LIFE IS SALACA team gave the same lesson at Salacgrīva Secondary School to pupils in grades 7 and 9.
During the lessons, the pupils learned about the wealth of Latvia’s fresh waters, with particular emphasis on the most biologically valuable waters and the natural values found in them. At the end, the pupils could test their knowledge in a Kahoot quiz, competing for valuable prizes.
The LIFE IS SALACA project would like to sincerely thank all three schools, as well as Oskars Zuģickis, head of the Europe Direct Dienvidlatgale centre, and Liene Pelēkzirne, head of Europe Direct Vidzeme, for their responsiveness and cooperation.
