Nr. 15. Skats no šūpolēm uz aizsargājamu saldūdeņu biotopu 3260 “Upju straujteces un dabiski upju posmi”

Salaca ir Ziemeļvidzemes dabas pērle un Baltijas valstu galvenā lašupe. Ierindota starp zivju faunas saglabāšanā nozīmīgākajām Latvijas ūdenstecēm. Tā iztek no Burtnieku ezera un savu 96 km garo tecējumu noslēdz Salacgrīvā, ietekot Rīgas jūras līcī. Salacas tecējumu bagātina vairāk kā 20 pietekas, no kurām kā lielākās minamas Korģe, Iģe, Glāžupe, Melnupe, Jogla. Par Salacas pieteku uzskatāma arī Jaunupe, kas ir 17. gadsimtā mākslīgi rakts kanāls, kas vairāku simtu gadu laikā ir pietiekami dabiskojies. Salaca atbilst arī ES nozīmes biotopam “Upju straujteces un dabiski upju posmi”, pie kura pieskaitāmas visas upes vai to posmi ar akmeņainu, oļainu vai granšainu gultni, kuros vidējais straumes ātrums ir lielāks par 2 m/s, kā arī visi dabiskie, nepārveidotie upju posmi neatkarīgi no straumes ātruma.
