Recreation on the water discussed on the LR1 programme “Kā labāk dzīvot”

The warm season brings holidaymakers to Latvia’s water bodies. Several interests often clash there – the peace wanted by landowners and residents living in these areas, the adventure sought by tourists and, of course, nature reserves and regulations. What is allowed and what is not when boating and relaxing on the banks of rivers and lakes?

On 15 May 2026, on the LR1 programme “Kā labāk dzīvot” (How to live better), this question was explored by Artūrs Jansons, Deputy Director of the Administrative Department of the Pierīga Regional Administration of the Nature Conservation Agency, Lauma Vizule-Kahovska, coordinator of the Nature Conservation Agency’s “LIFE IS SALACA” project and freshwater habitat expert, and tour guide Valdis Čeičs.

The programme also included the experience of Linda Krūmiņa, owner of the “Jaunzāģeri” campsite, in working with holidaymakers. The campsite is located in Krimulda parish, in Gauja National Park, and its owners provide both accommodation and boat hire for trips on the Gauja and the Brasla.
