Water projects in Latvia are building a joint cooperation platform

On 11 February, at the invitation of the CREATE project, water research projects currently being carried out in Latvia met for the first inter-project cooperation meeting. Seven projects took part in the meeting of the inter-project cooperation group – CREATE (Assessment and integrated modelling of aquatic ecosystem services: developing science-based nature-based solutions to reduce eutrophication), NATALIE (Promoting and implementing nature-based solutions for climate resilience in European biogeographical regions), LIFE GoodWater IP (Implementing Latvian river basin management plans to achieve good surface water status), LIFE RiverFlow (Restoring Latvian aquatic ecosystems – solutions to reduce hydrological and morphological pressures), ENGAGE (Nutrient management in Europe – recommended approaches to reducing nutrient export), Water Cultures and LIFE IS SALACA (Adaptation of Water Framework Directive and Habitats Directive harmonization and integrated actions for freshwater quality improvement in Salaca river sub catchment).

The LIFE IS SALACA project was represented at the meeting by Lauma Vizule-Kahovska and Linda Uzule from the Nature Conservation Agency and Kaspars Abersons from the Institute of Food Safety, Animal Health and Environment BIOR. Project coordinator Lauma Vizule-Kahovska presented the goals and main activities of the LIFE IS SALACA project and outlined potential opportunities for future cooperation with other projects working in the water sector.

All the project representatives agreed that setting up the water inter-project cooperation group is an excellent platform for sharing each project’s activities, creating synergies with other projects and jointly looking for the best solutions and opportunities to improve water management in Latvia.
